DRESS DINNER JACKET OF LT. GEN. CHARLES R. SNIFFEN
CHARLES R. SNIFFEN (1924-2018) American lieutenant general, a career officer who served from World War II through Vietnam. During World War II he served in the 349th Infantry Regiment of the 88th Infantry Division. In 1955 he joined the 24th Infantry Division in Korea and later served two tours in Vietnam. In the late 1970's he was assigned as the Joint Chief of Staff Representative to the Mutual and Balanced Force Reduction Talks in Vienna Austria. When he retired in 1981 he was assigned to the Presidio of San Francisco as Deputy Commanding General Sixth US Army and Commanding General, US Army Readiness Region IX. Among the awards he earned in the service were the Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Silver Star, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge with Star. Offered here is Sniffen's military dress dinner jacket worn while he was a major general. The double-breasted jacket bears two rows of three gold 'eagle' buttons at the front, the sleeves each terminating with two ornate silver bullion general's stars and eight closely-spaced beige stripes. Within, the jacket is fully lined and bears a tag on the left breast with Sniffen's name, rank, and '1958' embroidered in red. There are also two tailor's labels from a tailor located in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Fine condition.
