First edition of Gallucci's Italian translation of Dürer's masterpiece on human proportion. The first application of anthropometry to aesthetics. The woodcuts are copied from the first edition, posthumously published at Nuremberg in 1528 as Vier Bücher von menschlicher Proportion. "Written, designed and illustrated by Dürer, the posthumous Vier Bücher was the first work to discuss the problems of comparative and differential anthropometry" (DSB). Gallucci added a fifth book.
