DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER 'WARRIOR SPEAR' YARD DECORATIONS

[ translate ]

Description:

DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER 'WARRIOR SPEAR' YARD DECORATIONS
An interesting pair of Dwight D. Eisenhower relics, two imitation 'spears' used by the Eisenhowers at their Gettysburg farm during parties, social events, and visits by foreign dignitaries. The spears said to have been decorated with ribbons, etc., obviously keeping with Eisenhower's military background. Each spear is approx. 70 in. long with a wood shaft and a two-part tin 'spear point'. Some of the spear heads are loose and slightly bent, and should be better affixed to their wooden shafts. They are accompanied by a copy of an Oct. 29, 2021 letter of provenance from Gettysburg resident Kenneth A. Brame. In his letter (and confirmed by Gettysburg residents), Brame worked for the Eisenhowers at their Gettysburg farm from 1965 to 1970, and was bequeathed a variety of personal items by Mamie Eisenhower, including the late general's saddle. Brame had met Ike when the ex-president would visit a local Stuckey's managed by Brame's parents, every day for his morning coffee. These 'spears', the saddle, and other Eisenhower family objects were sold by Yingling's Auction Service of Gettysburg on October 29, 2021, and a copy of their flyer for the sale is included.
