Dale Chihuly, 3 seaforms pieces

[ translate ]

Dale Chihuly
3 sculptural glass forms (Seaforms). Light blue glass, dark red-brown spiral thread melts, melts in shades of blue and green, irregularly wavy troughed shapes. Approx. 22 x 14 x 9.5 cm / 35.5 x 18 x 16 cm / 32.5 x 28 x 13 cm. One piece marked on the wall: Chihuly 1989 (engraved).
Dale Chihuly's (* 1941) glass designs fascinate with their unbelievable variety of varying shapes and colors. He experiments with gravity and asymmetry and often arranges his sculptural shell objects into ensembles, as is the case with these works offered here. These belong to the group of Macchia designs ('macchia', Italian for 'stain'), which are freely formed and show characteristic friable melts and spun threads. He was inspired by his extensive glass rod warehouse with hundreds of different colors, which gives him the opportunity to repeatedly experiment with new color combinations.
Another fascinating group of works in his work are the large-format glass installations in public spaces, in museums and botanical gardens, in which he reacts to the respective location with multi-part arrangements of his designs, lavish 'chandeliers' or 'towers'. His work is represented in over 200 major international museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, Corning Museum of Glass, Musée des Arts Décoratifs du Louvre Paris or the Victoria and Albert Museum London.
