Hand crafted & hand made by Kurt j matzdorf , reed & Barton It’s all damascene work gold 24 k and copper inlaid work on sterling silver Limited edition of 1500 Signed on the back & front The plate is rich with Jewish & Israeli motives , views of Jerusalem , kibbutz , people working in fields , solders in army and more . MATZDORF--Kurt, internationally renowned silversmith and founder of the State University of New York College at New Paltzs Metals Program, died on December 20, 2008. He was 86. Known for his ceremonial and liturgical work, Matzdorf created more than 900 designs during a career that spanned six decades. Matzdorf, who was born in Stadtoldendorf, Germany, on May 26, 1922, taught at SUNY New Paltz from 1957 to 1985. Professor Emeritus of Metals, he founded the colleges gold and silversmithing programs in 1966. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice. Survivors include two sons, David Matzdorf of London, England and James Matzdorf of Rensselaer, NY; one sister, Elizabeth Duff of Oxford, England; one granddaughter; and his partner, Stephanie Rosenblatt.
