Dan Socha (American, born 1943) is an artist, lithographer, educator, and collaborative printer whose early career was closely tied to the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles. After earning his BFA from the University of Hartford, he trained at Tamarind and later completed an MA at the University of New Mexico. At Tamarind, Socha printed works for artists including Sam Francis and the collaborative team of Ken Price and Ed Ruscha before joining the University of Illinois, where he became professor emeritus. His own prints move between suggestive Pop-influenced imagery and quiet abstractions centered on isolated, floating forms. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Art and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.

Untitled, 1969, color lithograph in gray-violet, green, and pale tan inks on white wove paper, printed and published by the Tamarind Lithography Workshop. A broad gray-violet form curves over a bright green shape, narrowing into a long stem that descends toward a rounded pale-tan end against the otherwise open sheet. Inscribed in graphite “Tam Imp.” at lower left, denoting an impression retained by Tamarind, and signed and dated “D. Socha ’69” at lower right. Bearing the Tamarind workshop and printer’s blindstamps in the lower margin. Sheet measures approximately 23.25 × 18.25 inches; image measures approximately 14.25 × 9.75 inches. The sheet shows light handling wear with faint staining near the lower right and moisture staining visible on the verso; remnants of mounting tape remain along the upper verso. Provenance of Martin and Enid Gleich.
