Literature of 17th to 19th Century – Rare work by Morhof on rhetoric. - VD18 1022424 - Morhof (1639-1691), the most distinguished professor at the newly founded University of Kiel, already recognized in his own day the danger that the specialization and autonomization of individual disciplines might cause the university to cease being a place of cultivation of the universitas litterarum. The answer could no longer be a studium universale drowning in its material, rather, it was necessary to penetrate the totality of knowledge in a structuring manner and with independent judgment (ADB 22, pp. 237 ff.). - Bound with: W. Schönsleder and C. Cellarius, Apparatus Eloquentiae, in quo Latinae Linguae Opes, ex antiquis probisque Scriptoribus depromptae, & in locos communes digestae . repraesentantur. Latest edition. Cologne, Gleditsch & Weidmann, 1710. 631 leaves. Title printed in red and black. - A good copy of this rare dictionary. - VD 18 10879927. - Cf. Zaunmüller 255.
