\Artist: Daniel Maclise ( 1806-1870) Attr. a
Technique: Oil on board\Signature: Monogrammata\Dimensions: 13. 5_1_17. 5_cm
Measurements: 13. 5 x 17. 5 cm Without frame Work-oil sketch on panel depicting Strongbow and Aoife, monogrammed lower right D. M. Coming from a private collection. It is in a fairly conservative state, in patina. Slight crachelure and cracks of pictorial pigment in some places. Small restorations emerge at the Wood lamp. Upon verification with solvents, it was found to be authentic in all its parts. This interesting painting is undoubtedly a "quick test" of preparation for a larger painting; the fast stroke does not however exclude an intrinsic quality typical of the great master. The work is monogrammed D. M. and the stylistic features of the monogram lead back to the great Anglo-Saxon master Daniel Maclise. Even the subject unequivocally refers us to the themes of Maclise, in fact several times the artist painted the wedding of Strongbow and Aoife. Therefore this small painting appears to be a preparatory sketch. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and lawful origin from our gallery with photos as required by law. Insured and tracked shipping.
