We are grateful to Howard L. Rehs for confirming the authenticity of this work, which will be included in his forthcoming Daniel Ridgway Knight catalogue raisonné. The lot is accompanied by a photo-certificate from Rehs Galleries, Inc.

Condition Report: Unlined canvas. Minor frame abrasion at edges. Yellowing to the varnish layer. Finely patterned craquelure throughout, expanding into more moderate cracking in some areas, particularly in the lower half of center. Slight buckling to the canvas at lower edge, particularly in lower left corner, with two small, apparently associated, dots of loss. A few small spots of discolored accretion visible in the sky area at upper right quadrant. A small white accretion, possibly paint, at center of right side, approximately 7-inches inward from right edge. Not examined out of frame due to size.
Under UV: varnish fluoresces green unevenly, appearing as drippy spots in some areas. A fine vertical line of retouching to right edge at lower right corner. Apparent older retouching applied to aforementioned craquelure affecting the figures. A very few scattered, finely applied pinpoints of retouching to the background and foliage.
