Daniell, 1810, 50 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates on thick paper by Thomas and William Daniell, each with explanatory text opposite, at least 2 leaves watermarked 'Whatman 1808', Introduction and Cape of Good Hope leaves printed upside down to versos, occasional light offsetting, small faint pressed blindstamp of Radnorshire County Library to lower right margin of title, photocopied bookplate of Thomas Bulkeley-Owen pasted to front endpaper, hinges reinforced, all edges gilt, contemporary calf gilt, rebacked with original spine relaid, joints and edges a little rubbed and scuffed, one or two small indentations to covers, oblong folio, 24 x 35.5 cm (Quantity: 1) Abbey Travel 516; Colas 797; Lipperheide 1523; Mendelssohn I, p. 413; Tooley 173. 'A collection of beautifully coloured engravings illustrating places and scenes of interest on the voyage from Gravesend to China and India.' (Mendelssohn). 'The journey described began in April 1785, on the Atlas Indiaman, bound for China. The uncle and nephew returned to England from India in September 1794...' (Abbey). The Daniells travelled via Madeira, the Cape of Good Hope and Java, arriving in Whampoa, China in August 1785, and after spending a few months there sailed on to Calcutta.
