⁂ On the Origin of Species has several alterations from earlier editions and contains a leaf listing the "Additions and Corrections to the Second and Third Editions"; it is also the first English edition to include 7pp. 'Historical Sketch of the Recent Progress of Opinion on the Origin of Species'. The Journal of Researches is the final definitive text, with new preliminaries and a postscript on p.vii.
