David Bowie – Aladdin Sane (Collectors Promo Release)

Now 50 Years Ago Of One Of The 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time

Aladdin Sane is the sixth studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on April 19, 1973 in the United Kingdom through RCA Records.
Following his breakthrough The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, it was the first album he wrote and released from a star position.
It was Bowie's last album with the full Spiders line-up.

Written en route in the US, most of the tracks are heavily influenced by America and Bowie's perception of the country.
Some of the songs are influenced by the Rolling Stones; A cover of their song "Let's Spend the Night Together" is included.
Bowie described the album's title character, a pun on "A Lad Insane", as "Ziggy Stardust goes to America". The cover artwork, photographed by Brian Duffy and featuring a lightning bolt on Bowie's face, was the most expensive cover ever made at the time and is considered one of his most iconic images.

Along with UK Top 5 singles "The Jean Genie" and "Drive-In Saturday", Aladdin Sane was Bowie's most commercially successful album up to that point, topping the UK Albums Chart and earning the artist immense popularity there.
It also received positive reviews from music critics.
The popularity continued through the second half of the Ziggy Stardust Tour, which saw various changes to the setlist and stage production. In later decades, Aladdin Sane appeared on several best-of lists and is considered one of his most important releases.

In 2003, Aladdin Sane was listed among six Bowie entries on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (at number 277) and at number 279 in a 2012 revised list.
It later charted at number 77 on Pitchfork's list of the 100 Greatest Albums of the 1970s.
In 2013, NME placed the album at number 230 on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The album was also included in the 2018 edition of Robert Dimery's book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
