David Cobb served as a 1st Lieutenant in Atlantic convoys between 1941-42 before going on to command motor torpedo boats in the North Sea. At the close of the war, Cobb completed his training as an artist. He would enjoy success and prestige as a painter, and also as the president of the Royal Society of Marine Artists.
In 1982, Cobb travelled to the Falkland Islands as a war artist. Whilst there he documented the major events of the war, but also took time to sketch the landscape and the lesser known details of the conflict.
