DAVID DREBIN (B.1970), CANADIAN
TEARDROP, 2015
Photo sculpture; from an edition of 6
Including base 84.5 ins x 25.5 ins x 24 ins; 214.6 cms x 64.8 cms x 61 cms
Provenance:
Private Collection, Toronto
Note:
Using 3D printing techniques, Toronto-born artist David Drebin places his usual subject, a femme fatale, inside a moulded acrylic teardrop. Drebin refers to this series as “photo sculptures,” an offshoot of his main photographic practice. Recurring themes are explored in this work, including the artificial and fleeting nature of love, glamour and trauma as both deeply connected and performative.
In this sculpture, desire and sadness are personified by the sparkly gold body of an idealized woman, dressed to the nines, who tumbles through space, trapped forever in a teardrop. Perhaps she represents a lost love, a missed connection or a damsel in distress?
Estimate: $4,000—6,000
