David Freda for Tiffany & Co. Gold, Colorful Enamel and Diamond 'Tiffany Orchid No. 23' Slipper Orchid Brooch
18 kt., the three-dimensional Paphiopedilum Chrysostom (Richardfort Slipper) orchid of colorful white, lime green, orange and yellow enamel all over, spotted with dark to faint red veining, centering and tipped by one round and 3 marquise-shaped diamonds ap. .90 ct., signed Tiffany & Co., circa 2007, ap. 56.3 dwts. gross. With signed box.

Enamelist David Freda's work for Tiffany spanned a project of over 50 works, focusing on hyper-realistic recreations of native and hybrid orchid species. In comparision with the works of Paulding Farnum in the late 1880s, Freda's designs for Tiffany incorporate a specialized multi-process high-fired enamel application over gold, using the lost-wax technique and natural orchids as the mold. After many firings, the plates are fitted together to form the three-dimensional object. Many of Freda's works have been featured in the Tiffany Blue Book publication.
