40 x 30 x 1 1/2 in. (101.6 x 76.2 x 3.8 cm.)

Private Collection, New Mexico

This mixed media work combines acrylic, fabrics, photo-collage and adornments into a layered, story-field narrative that is emblematic of Bradley's Ghost Dance series of works. The stacked structure lets Bradley push multiple timeframes at once: history, memory, political critique, and present-day Native experience. Bradley is best known for narrative paintings, mixed-media works, and bronze sculpture that confront Native history and contemporary life, often using humor, irony, and pop-culture references to challenge stereotypes, cultural appropriation, and social injustice. He has lived and worked in Santa Fe, New Mexico for decades and received a New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2016.
