A Photograph depicting David Sassoon (1792-1864) in the traditional dress of the Jews of Baghdad and Iraq. David Sassoon was a Jewish leader in Baghdad and in Mumbai (India), businessman, philanthropist and the first of the European branch of the Sassoon family, which was called “the Rothschilds of the East”. Only a handful of photos of David Sassoon are known. Rare documentation of a Jew in traditional clothes from the early days of photography. Attached to cardboard illustrated with palm trees. Approximately 14X10 cm (with borders: 26X20 cm). Good condition, creases, tears to margin, glue residues and stains to the cardboard, wear.
