David Tindle RA, British b.1932 - Barges on Lagoon, 1953; pen and brown ink and watercolour on paper, signed, titled and dated on label on reverse of the frame, 30.5 x 37.5 cm (ARR) Provenance: AIA Gallery, London (according to the label attached to the reverse of the frame); purchased from the above in 1953 and thence by descent Note: Tindle was a young prodigy, first exhibiting at the age of just 19 and mixing in a circle of artists in London that included John Craxton, Lucien Freud and Keith Vaughan. Early works such as this demonstrate his subtle use of colour and angular use of line. His work is held in collections including Towner Art Gallery, the Hepworth Wakefield and the National Portrait Gallery.
