Dazkiri

Mid 19th century, 101 x 91 cm, South West Anatolia, Afyonkarahisar province

This small-format Dazkiri differs in ornamentation and colour from most other examples of the group, and it is also somewhat coarser in weave. A red double niche with stepped arches placed at the centre of the mustard yellow field contains a tree surrounded by a number of blossoms. Larger and smaller trees are seen in the spandrels. The green main border is decorated with stars. – Slight signs of wear, good overall condition, original finishes all around.
