Firm and elegant coeval full leather bindings with gold titles and rich friezes on the spines, overall very well preserved. Marbled endpapers. Red edges and green silk bookmarks. Important and prestigious noble bookplate applied to the counter-panels that attests how these books came from the library of Count Guglielmo Ludolf (Istanbul 1818 - Naples 1908) . Son of Count Giuseppe Costantin, ambassador of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies at the Ottoman Gate, and Countess Tecla Weissenhof, he was an important diplomat of the nineteenth century and passionate bibliophile. The best and most complete edition of De Brantome's works, partly original and very difficult to find complete with all 15 tomes; it is on this edition that all subsequent ones will be based until the beginning of the nineteenth century. It contains for the first time historical notes of Le Duchat, Prosper Marchand and Lancelot. This is the first edition described by Brunet (Bookstore and Book lover's manual) . Pierre de Bourdeille, known as Brantôme (1540 – 1614) , was a French historian and biographer at the court of Henry III, of whom he left us remarkable memories of intrigues, duels, rivalries and even secret assassinations.
