Death of Nelson: a large creamware jug, early 19th century
Probably Herculaneum, printed in black with an arresting scene of 'THE DEATH of ADMIRAL LORD NELSON off CADIZ Octr 21th [sic] 1805', the fatally wounded Nelson in his cabin attended by three figures, a patriotic verse written below, the reverse with another fine print of Britannia and Hope weeping by a monument to Nelson bearing his famous words 'ENGLAND expects every Man to do his duty', 25cm high
John and Jennifer May illustrate a jug with this particular print of Nelson's Death, calling it 'perhaps the most impressive creamware piece yet recorded for Trafalgar', see Commemorative Pottery (1972), p.97, fig.162. The jug is in the Horatio Nelson Collection donated to the Museum of Nevis History, the island where Nelson married Frances (Fanny) Nisbet.

The verse below Nelson reads:
'Long as Trafalgar's rocky shore shall stand
Long as the Ocean wash its bloody strand
Long as th' Historian writes the faithful page
And Fame shall hand it down from age to age
So long shall Brittons to their children tell
How NELSON CONQUERED & how NELSON fell'
