Declaration Signer George Wythe Clip Signature

Clipped signature, measuring 5.25" x 3" (largest point), n.p., undated. A small clip boldly signed "G. Wythe" measuring 2.5" x 1" and affixed to a larger piece of archival paper with verso still visible. General surface toning is present with very minor smudging to the "e". Overall, near fine- a superb example.

George Wythe (1726-1806) was an American founding father and scholar from Virginia who, as a representative in the Continental Congress, became the first of the state's seven signatories of the Declaration of Independence. He would also serve as a member of the Philadelphia Convention and worked on the committee that established the convention's rules and procedures, although he left before the signing of the Constitution. Academically, Wythe taught and was a mentor to Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, Henry Clay and other men who became American leaders.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
