Decorative frame in pyrographic bone, tortoiseshell imitation and ebonized wood – late 18th century

A frame crafted from pyrographed bone, tortoiseshell imitation, and ebonized wood, notable for the richness of its materials and the delicacy of its ornamentation. Its composition combines an ebonized wood molding with an intense black finish, inlaid with tortoiseshell imitation and bone plaques decorated with pyrography. The contrast between the deep black of the wood and the warm, ivory tones of the bone is one of the piece's main attractions. The plaques feature meticulously crafted vegetal decoration, in which stems, leaves, and sinuous motifs unfold across the bone surface, lending luminosity and rhythm to the composition. The use of ebonized wood is particularly significant. The black finish visually imitates the appearance of ebony, a wood prized for its intense color and its association with luxury objects. Dimensions: 40 × 30 cm; frame dimensions: 52 × 41.5 cm.
