Hard boards, original red cloth, black and gold decorated front board and spine [some soiling and edge wear]; 6" x 8.1/2"; front endpaper is missing; color chromolithographed frontispiece with tissue guard, 474 pages with many text and full-page woodcut illustrations + 15 color plates [all listed plates are present. One plate is miss-bound: the plate listed at the page 230 is bound at the page 236], a few page corner folds, some soiling, very good condition.
Ernest Henri Griset (1843-1907) was a French-born painter and illustrator noted for the humorous interpretations of his subjects. Many examples of Griset's work are now in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
