A DIAMOND AND CHRYSOPRASE 'ROSE DE NOëL' BROOCH, BY VAN CLEEF & ARPELS, CIRCA 1980
Designed as a flowerhead set with four chrysoprase petals, highlighted at the centre by wirework gold pistals and a trio of round brilliant-cut diamonds, mounted in 18K gold, signed Van Cleef & Arpels, numbered, French assay marks, maker's mark, length 5.2cm
In the 1970s Van Cleef and Arpels created a jewellery collection called Rose de Noël, a tribute to roses that bloom during winter. These creations combine the sparkle of diamonds and the lustre of hard stones, resulting in a beautiful jewellery piece, symbolising beauty and romance.
Nature inspired jewels of the 60s and 70s were bright and bold, with a powerful presence and personality, directly attributed to the use of vibrant, colour saturated materials. The Rose de Noël, exchanged its snowy mother of pearl heart-shaped petals for sun-warmed coral.
