A RARE DIAMOND WITH PENDANT FITTING

The marquise brilliant-cut diamond weighing 6.01cts, with pendant mount fitting

Accompanied by a report from the GIA laboratory in America, stating that the diamond weighing 6.01cts is G colour, VVS2 clarity. Report number 5181126188, dated January 27th 2017. Accompanied by an appendix stating that the diamond is Type IIA.

Often referred to as "Golconda" diamonds, on account of the majority being supplied from diamond mines in India which were discovered in the 16th and 17th centuries, Type IIa diamonds are the most valued and the purest type of diamonds. Type IIa is a rare class of diamond that contains no measurable amount of nitrogen. As nitrogen is the impurity that imparts the yellow colour in diamonds, white diamonds of this type tend to be colourless (D-F colour) and have few inclusions. It is estimated that only about 1% of the worlds diamonds are type IIa. In fact, they are so rare that they command a 5% to 15% premium when they are found.

One of the most well-known examples is the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond (formerly known as the Krupp Diamond), a 33.19 carat Type IIA diamond. Purchased for $300,000 in 1968 by Richard Burton, the ring became one of Elizabeth Taylors most cherished white diamonds; one she wore nearly every day. It sold in 2011 for $8.8 million.

Another iconic historic Type IIa diamond is the Cullinan Diamond, also known as the worlds largest gem-quality rough diamond. The rough weighed 3 106.75 carats and was eventually cut into separate large stones and seven smaller ones. When combined, all these stones are worth billions.
