Destination Unknown by Arturo Mallmann

[ translate ]

Destination unknown by Arturo Mallmann signed on the bottom right corner and the back of the painting. He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1953. Soon after he was born his mother took him to Argentina, where his father was from and where Mallmann grew up. His phobia for formal education took him to a lot of reading and learning different subjects on his own since earlier adolescence, like photography, movie making and then writing, especially poetry. He had his first book of poems published in 1975 by a Spanish company. In 1976, when the dictatorship came and with many of his friends killed, he left Argentina and wondered around the world for many years. When he returned in 1982, he stopped writing and decided to teach himself how to draw and paint. He realized that he was more effected by working directly with images, instead of having to translate them into words. In 1988 he left Argentina again, this time permanently. He now lives and works in Los Angeles and he shows his work in several galleries around the United States.
