Deutsch - Bildnis einer Dame als Pilgerin
German School, 18th century
A portrait of a lady as a pilgrim
Sitting in rocky landscape, a pug at her feet. Verso inscribed "Heberle". Watercolour and coating paint on parchment. 10.3 x 7.7 cm. Minor damage to frame. Contrary to previous assumptions, it is probably not Countess Wilhelmine von Bayreuth (1709-1758), the favourite sister of Frederick the Great. The sitter has a clear physiognomic similarity with Wilhelmines sister Sophie Dorothea Marie (1719 Berlin - 1765 Schwedt).
