Diaboleite Mammoth-St Anthony Mine, St. Anthony Deposit, Tiger, Mammoth District, Pinal Co., Arizona, USA "An intergrown cluster of bladed diaboleite crystals up to about 2 cm. I know of only one that is better. It was in the collection of Jack Jago and it disappeared when he placed his collection in storage in the Ferry building in San Francisco. So this one may be the best one now. . I got this specimen when I sold Earl Calvert's collection for the family, many years after he died." - Rock H. Currier The late Dick Bideaux once hosted a party at his house where part of his collection was on display. He deliberately left any information as to: species, locality, provenance, etc., off of the specimens on display, forcing allegedly knowledgeable attendees to sight identify the items and then offer commentary, both trenchant and accurate. From Dick's standpoint the party was a stunning success. From the attendees standpoint it was an angst-filled experiment in reputational gambling. This specimen was not one of the 'nameless horde' but based on this Diaboleite's particulars, it would have been well suited for the occasion. Fine Diaboleites are very similar to hen's teeth: not a whole lot of them around. With crystals to around 2 cm, this is a world class Diaboleite. I still wonder what stunt Dick would pull these days, were he still around. There is a custom acrylic stand. Overall Measurements: 3.1 x 2.2 x 1.2 inches (8.0 x 5.5 x 3.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Ex. Earl Calvert Collection [RHC #6847, acquired 2000] [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
