Diann Bauer, American b.1972- Brothers, 2007; pencil, 29.7x42cm Provenance: Contemporary Art Society, London, where purchased by the present owner in 2009 Note: Diann Bauer is a contemporary British artist who produces work in a wide variety of media, including video, installation, sculpture, and drawing. Bauer’s interdisciplinary approach is part of the highly conceptual nature of the artist’ work, engaging with issues such as the nature of time and the individual’s relationship with and experience of its passing. The present piece displays the combination of abstraction and figuration which is evident in much of Bauer’s work, and also gestures towards a sense of disjuncture and uncertainty which accompany the themes with which the artist often deals. Bauer’s work has been exhibited at locations which include the New Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park in New York, DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art in Athens, Tate London, and at the Busan Biennale in South Korea.
