Diaspore var. Twin Selçuk, Muğla Province, Aegean Region,...
Diaspore var. Twin Selçuk, Muğla Province, Aegean Region, Turkey "It may be the best V twin of diaspore in the world. The color is amber with a touch of purple in the sunlight. Got the specimen from a young European friend of Herbert Kaiser at Tucson in 2013. His father needed to sell some of his stuff to pay for his old age care." - Rock H. Currier Diaspore is just one of a slew of mineralogical oddities that have acquired "new" pedigrees cooked up by would be 'marketers' preying on the public's ignorance. "Csarite" and "Ottomanite" being just two of the many names hung on this material. Chemically, Diaspore is an Aluminum Oxide mineral, with a few OH groups thrown in to differentiate it from a whole raft of other Aluminum Oxide minerals. It was originally described in 1801. In quantity, it makes a good ore for Aluminum but this one isn't ore! Diospore doesn't usually form 3 dimensional crystals, and, twins are even rarer. There is a custom acrylic base for this remarkable "V" twin. Overall Measurements: 3.5 x 3.3 x 1.2 inches (9.0 x 8.5 x 3.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: RHC #8201, acquired Feb 2013 MinID 66X-AR1 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
