Eliotes dictionarie, edited by Thomas Cooper, third edition, double column, black and Roman letter, title within ornate woodcut historiated border, woodcut historiated and decorative initials, occasional contemporary ink marginalia in Latin (extensive on final verso), lacking A10 (?blank) and Q1-8, title with short tear to outer margin, the lower margin trimmed (just touching border) and edges little chipped, 3X4 piece torn from lower corner, affecting part of 3 lines of text recto and verso, water-stained (heaviest at start and end), occasional spotting or staining, lightly browned, fragment of early printed English f. relating to Aristotle as rear pastedown, lacking front pastedown and free endpapers at both ends, contemporary calf, spine in compartments, covers with blind-ruled triple filet border, remains of metal clasps, some water-staining, rubbed and scuffed, but solid, [STC 7663], folio, Thomas Berthelet, [22nd, November,] 1559. *** Third edition of this Latin-English dictionary, which is rare at auction.
