Artist: Dimitrie Berea
Title: Interieur Aux Fleurs
Medium: Lithograph
Art Dimensions: 23 H x 29 W inches
Framed Dimensions: 29 H x 35 W inches
ARTIST BIO:
Talented, romantic and free-spirited, Romanian artist Dimitrie Berea painted stunning landscapes and portraits. He lived a colorful life and moved in aristocratic circles, painting royal families and wealthy patrons in Europe. Later, Berea was in demand in the U.S. by Hollywood movie stars, politicians and other notable figures. He is said to have gained notoriety for a comment he made to Nancy Reagan while painting her portrait as First Lady of California. After she had gotten chilled and feared catching a cold while posing outdoors, Berea reportedly told her: "A cold last shortly, while art is eternal."
Berea married Princess Alice Gurielli Berea Terres, a Romanian native whose royal family was exiled during the Communist revolution. Upon Berea’s death in 1975, his widow left a valuable collection of his art to Berea College, a leading private liberal arts institution in Kentucky, where no student pays tuition.
