Dionisiac procession with Dionysius ,Sileni and Maenad and tragic scene with subject uncertain

Original engraving with printed colour finished by hand. 67 x 35 cms(printed surface). This is the plate 43 of volume III of the Cabinet of greek antiquites by Hamilton and Harcarville.The scenes comes from an Apulian bell-krater that is nowadays at the Vatican Museum( Museo Gregoriano Etrusco). The left part represents three women one holding an umbrella and two men talking by a plinth with a small statue. To the right a Dionysiac procession with Dionysius, Sileni and Maenad playing the aulos. This fine vase comes from the collection assembled by William Hamilton as british envoy at Naples and ultimately sold to the British Museum. the book was a cornerstone for the development of the greek taste in architecture,decoration and decorative arts in the late XVIII century throughout Europe.
