Dioptase with Malachite and Chrysocolla Dikuluwe Mine, Sicomines copper-cobalt project, Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DR Congo 9.2 x 8.9 x 3.9 cm (3.62 x 3.50 x 1.54 in) From just west of the better-known Mashamba West Mine comes this enticing and incredibly vibrant combination specimen copper-bearing minerals. The front view of this specimen shows dozens of well-formed, short-prismatic crystals of Dioptase (to 1.2 centimeters) scattered across two broad patches of fibrous Malachite, all presented atop a sky-blue backdrop of Chrysocolla. Every one of the Dioptase crystals is glassy, partially translucent, and have a characteristic emerald-green color. While comparably subtle to the Dioptase, the Malachite stands out very nicely against the Chrysocolla and offers a gentle shimmering effect to a large portion of the display.
