Alice Davis Happy Easter Large 11'' x 47'' Original Art (Walt Disney, 1960s/1970s). Disney Legend and renowned costume designer Alice Davis (1929 – 2022) had a charming angel character that she would sketch, sometimes used in the holiday cards she would create. We have also seen the character pop up in her sketchbooks from the late 1940s and in drawings she did with her signature, indicating she created art of this character over the decades as she grew and evolved as an artist. This trademark character is the star of this enormous pan-sized rice paper piece created by Alice to celebrate Easter in the 1960s or 70s. The ink and gouache work features 18 angels in total who deliberate how to celebrate Easter in hand-written dialogue under each trio. Their troubles don't last for long and they joyfully exclaim they've thought of an idea towards. Each painting of these angels is more enjoyable than the last with their exaggerated poses, starry eyes, and glittering halos. The angels vary from about 3.75'' x 3'' to 10.5'' x 7.25'' combined on approximately 11'' x 47'' rice paper. Fair to Good condition overall with faint toning and folds. From the Disney Legend Inductees Marc and Alice Davis Archive. HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
