Disneyland – Cast Member Canoe Races Third Place Pirates of the Caribbean Medal (Walt Disney, 2006). This is a very rare Cast Member exclusive medal, awarded to a member of the Third Place team during the 2006 Cast Member Canoe Races at Disneyland! The Disney Parks tradition of Canoe Races had their start in 1963, as a team-building competition for Disneyland Cast Members that tested physical skill and coordination in a race around the Rivers of America. While the competition takes place before the Park's hours of operation, the events have become very well known to the general public. Each race carries a theme and this special medal features a Pirates of the Caribbean emblem with oars behind a Jack Sparrow inspired skull, to mark the year that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest debuted in theaters. The medal reads "Canoe Races ‘06" along the bottom, and has a "Third Place" lanyard. The medal portion measures 3" in diameter and is in Very Good condition with minor wear.
