Edition in French of Volume 2 of Voyage du Capitaine Dixon. A naval officer and explorer, he was commissioned by King George III to organise this expedition, the purpose of which was to set up trading posts on the northwest coast of America. This book is in fact a kind of diary in the form of letters (written by W. Baresford, his purser) enhanced with many interesting descriptions. Extras: Volume numbered “2” with a handwritten number. The volume (complete) contains, as fold-outs: sheet music of an Indian song, 7 numbered plates (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and last) , 23 tables, (Tables de la Route du King-George et de la Queen-Charlotte, de la déclinaison du Compas et des Observations Météorologiques) . Leather binding, damaged mainly on the back cover, blunt corners, some foxing, some dog-eared and dusty pages. The first table is lightly torn on one end, plates 16 and 17 are torn over 3 cm on the edge, page 292 is damaged. Spine with compartments adorned with gilded diamonds and a central rosette, burgundy title label.
