Dmitry Aleksandrovich Toporkov, Russian 1885-1937- Artist and his Model, circa 1910; oil on canvas, signed upper left; inscribed in Cyrillic on the reverse, 142x78cm (unframed) Provenance: Aacquired from the collection of art historian Valentina Kuriltseva in 1993 by the present owner. Note: A pre-revolutionary generation artist,Toporkov, worked as a painter and a graphic artist. He studied at the Moscow College of Arts, Sculpture and Architecture, was the pupil and successor of A. Arkhipov and K. Korovin. From 1922, he was a member of the 'Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia', and a participant of the exhibitions of the Association. Works can be found in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
