Dobbs served with Sir John Moore at Corunna and during the Peninsular War campaigns at Fuentes de Onoro, Cuidad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria and others. He gained ten clasps for the Military General Service Medal and was the last officer wounded by one of the last shots fired during the war.
