Large black and white photograph, signed in 1957 by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip

A pair of corgis and a garden: a natural family portrait

This photograph shows the entire royal family, with the two eldest, the only children born at the time. The future King Charles and Princess Anne, standing, surround Queen Elizabeth and seated Prince Philip. Two of the Queen's corgis are featured.
This official photograph illustrated the 1955 Christmas card, proving that it was appreciated by the royal couple.
The position of each person, the presence of the corgis and the unobstructed view of the gardens makes it a very pleasant composition, quite natural although solemn, giving off an impression of serenity.

An official provenance: a testimony of the queen's first trip to France

This document was acquired by its current owner during a French auction, dedicated to the documents of a former official photographer of the Elysée Palace in the 1950s, under the Fourth Republic. This official photographer of the Presidency of the Republic had notably covered the entirety of the Queen's first visit to France in 1957, welcomed by President René Coty. Considering the date and the context, it is very likely that the photo was given as part of this royal visit to Paris (reception at the Paris Opera in particular) . It is therefore an authentic testimony of this first visit of the young queen to France, widely documented by the French press at the time.

A rare document signed by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh

Signed in 1957, 5 years after the start of the reign of Elizabeth II, it is a document dating from the first years of the reign. As with every official signature, Prince Philip's signature is “Philip”, that of the Queen is “Elizabeth R”. The date is also handwritten.

Some royal documents were signed with the autopen, particularly from 1959, putting the value of the document into perspective. Considering the date and the specificity of each of the two signatures, this does not seem to be the case of the autographs of this original document. The two signatures seem very unique and therefore handwritten.

A magnificent decorative object

With very good sharpness and vivid black and white tones, the photographic print is in excellent condition. It does not appear to have been posted in the past.

The photo is mounted on strong cardboard in excellent condition, as shown in the photos.
Its dimensions are quite large for a signed photograph (21 x 28. 5 cm in total) , i. e. larger than annual Christmas cards for example. Its format (fairly large and on a single page) makes it a photographic print perfectly suited for framing, ideally highlighting this historical document.

A unique opportunity to acquire this signed, family and historical photo!
