Letter dated September 8, 1845 from Commodore J. Jones ordering Simpson to Norfolk in order to deliver a shipment of recruits from the North Carolina. Signed by Jones. Recommendation letter dated October 7, 1845 from Captain Benjamin Cooper complimenting Simpson's service. Written for the Naval Examination board while Simpson was aboard the North Carolina. **Fair to good condition overall.
