First edition of this new French translation decorated with a frontispiece representing the author thinking among his books. Edition containing, following the Nights, The Reformation of the Underworld, and The Journey of John Calvin to the Elysian Fields and the Underworld. This edition was given in several places on the same date, notably in Bordeaux. The ancient translation was by Geneste and is supposed to have been based on another, less reliable manuscript.

Content: A baroque work par excellence from an author no less baroque, Les nuits tells what happened every night to the narrator (dream or reality) in his relationships with demons and hell. The seventh night is the story of the journey to the underworld, and the meeting of illustrious characters residing there (Cleopatra, Nero. . .) . The journey of John Calvin narrates that of the narrator accompanying John Calvin to the Champs-Elysées, a furious reformer wanting through his speeches to reform both death and the underworld. . .

Sevillian nights or the visions of Dom Francisco de Quevedo Villegas, translated again from Portuguese into François - New edition - in Bordeaux, by Raymond Brun, 1700 - (12) ff, 207 pp, (4) ff, 52 pp - full basane of the period - in-12 - 10 x 16 cm.

Condition: Caps, joints in good condition, solid hinges, 1 trimmed corner, scuffs on the covers, ribbed spine decorated with gold fleurons and the title label (2 tears on the spine) , title printed in red and black, rare foxing , some dog-eared leaves. Complete.

Correct copy of this famous work on demonology from the beginning of the 17th century.
