Notes:
The cuvée name "MCMLV", 1955 in Roman numerals, refers to the planting date of the parcel from which it comes. The family acquired it at the farsighted instigation of Great-Grandmother Lignier, whose sharp eye had noticed that this plot never suffered from frost. Located in Monts-Luisants, the vines are distinguished by producing small berries with thick skins and concentrated juice. The estate's flagship cuvée, MCMLV is a limited prestige production of 400 to 600 bottles depending on the vintage, and pays tribute to the century-old style and history of the estate. The label was designed by the artist Joyce Delimata.
The wines from this 25-are parcel, farmed biodynamically, are vinified in the traditional way: with 30% whole bunches, the harvest ferments in stainless-steel tanks for 20 days using native yeasts. After 21 months of ageing on the lees and in barrel, the wine is neither fined nor filtered at bottling.
The MCMLV cuvée is distinguished by an intensity and depth typical of the cru and of the style of Domaine Hubert Lignier, as well as by a remarkable calcareous salinity. 2017 is the estate's first vintage.
2018 is a sun-drenched vintage combining quantity and ripeness. A very wet winter gives way to a mild spring that allows for an excellent flowering. During the hot and very dry summer, the vines benefit from the water reserves built up early in the season. The harvest takes place on 4 September at the estate. The vintage shines through its rich, spicy, tannic and full-bodied wines.
Domaine Hubert Lignier will be pleased to include the winning bidder in its annual allocation. This allocation will be managed and invoiced directly by Domaine Hubert Lignier, starting with the 2027 vintage.
