Dominique Kleiner is a French artist born in 1967 in Douai. He discovered his passion for painting at the age of 14 and took courses at the School of Fine Arts in Rouen. He settled in Fécamp, where he created his workshop and gallery. He is dedicated to pop art, using bright, contrasting colors to represent everyday objects, urban landscapes or characters from 80s pop culture such as Grendizer or Actarus. He also creates graffiti on various supports, such as wood, metal or Plexiglas. His works are exhibited in several private and public collections around the world, as well as in galleries in France and abroad, notably in Paris, New York, London and Tokyo.

The design of the chess set was heavily influenced by Man Ray's interest in mathematics and geometry, as well as his interest in the surrealist concept of automatism, which involved allowing the subconscious to guide the creative process. The pieces in the set reflect this interest, with each piece presenting a distinct, abstract form stripped of any figurative or symbolic meaning.
