Douglas Donaldson - Batchelder Hammered Copper & Slag Glass Hanging Light c1910. Unsigned. Came to us from Pasadena, CA. Oak back 15.5"h overall x 5"w. Lantern 6"h x 4.5" x 4.5".

Born in Detroit, MI on Aug. 24, 1882. Donaldson studied at Columbia University, Rudolph Schaeffer in San Francisco and under E. A. Batchelder at Handicraft Guild School in Minneapolis. At the latter he taught metal work and jewelry design for four years. He arrived in Los Angeles in 1909 to teach at Batchelder's School of Design. By 1911 he was head of the crafts department at Manual Arts High School and in 1918 joined the staff at Otis Art Institute. He later taught summer classes to art teachers in his home while acting as color consultant for local architects. Donaldson died in Hollywood, CA on Nov. 15, 1972.
