Double sided fetish
Antlers, horns, fabrics. . .
H. 43cm
Intriguing Voodoo Vodun fetish from Benin. It is composed of two back-to-back figures carved from the same piece of wood. Their bodies are wrapped in fabrics, under which magical charges are hidden. The two faces emerge, wearing animal horns. They seem impassive, out of time and out of this world. Around their necks they wear pearl necklaces and padlocks. The fetish is covered with offerings, blood, alcohol, corn flour, pigments, earth. . . . The whole thing is powerful and evocative. A special and strange force emerges from this object. The two horns on the character's head are often associated with the devil in our Christian cultures, our view can only be influenced by this cultural heritage. Cracks and accidents, sold as is, see photos. A Voodoo cult object with a lot of presence, ancient and authentic. Circa 1960.
