[ translate ]

Gutenberg Bible - Holy Scripture of the Old and New Testaments.
Complete edition based on the original texts, translated and edited by Vinzenz Hamp, Meinrad Stenzel, Josef Kürzinger. Munich, Pattloch 1991.
Johannes Gutenberg's Bible has a firm place in the history of mankind. It is one of the most important and at the same time most beautiful works in the history of printing. The goldsmith, mirror maker and printer Johannes Gutenberg completed his Bible (based on the original in the Prussian Cultural Heritage Library in Berlin) around 1450 after three years of work.
The cover is a replica of the most beautiful original cover from Gutenberg's time that has survived, the so-called Fulda cover.
Like the original, it is richly embossed on both the front and back. The fine English cowhide was pulled over two wooden covers in accordance with old tradition and fitted with hand-made fittings and clasps, the surfaces of which were given a slightly antique tint. The leather for the cover was made especially for this edition by Pittard Garnar, England. The fittings, clasps and rosettes - a total of 14 pieces - were made by ARA Kunst, Altrandsberg using a casting process. The entire cover was made, as well as the fittings and clasps were attached, entirely by hand. 1184 + 353 + 39 pages + maps and family chronicle (not filled in) .
The spine is adorned with four impressive, hand-crafted double bindings. The images were printed in 48 full-page, five-color collotypes based on original pages of the Gutenberg Bible using quality offset printing by the Appl company in Wemding. The bookbinding work was carried out by the master company Steinbrenner in Schärding, Austria. In 1991, Pattloch Verlag created only a limited number of copies (strictly limited and hand-numbered) of this deluxe edition using elaborate handwork. It is out of print at the publisher and no longer available from them. Format: approx. 37 x 27 cm. Thickness approx. 12 cm. The deluxe Bible offered for sale here has the number 1383. A corresponding original certificate is enclosed. Really modelled on the original from the early 15th century down to the last detail. The Bible is in very good condition!
