The Picture Bible of Mercy.
The Bible of Mercy is already a classic of book art. Each copy of the strictly limited edition contains a handwritten identification number.
The work is delivered in a very luxurious box, which also reflects the immense value of this masterpiece in its exterior.
The whole thing is printed on fine volume paper, which, through a combination of classic craftsmanship and modern printing methods, brings the sublime biblical text and the miniatures, printed gold, foil gold and patina to a result that delights the eyes and the heart, the layman as well as the art expert.
The Bible also scores points with its punched gold edges and border decorations, which adorn each individual book of the Bible and, in addition to being another decorative element, also have a very practical use, as they serve as an orientation aid.
Gold played a central role in medieval manuscripts. It has a high symbolic character and decorative value. Gold as a symbol of immortality, the divine word, wealth and power. Gold was also used in abundance in this edition.
The genuine leather cover is eye-catching and beautifully decorated with clasps, fittings and a cross on the front.
They are all gold-plated, and the cross even has a valuable ruby inside. It is attached magnetically and can be removed and reattached.
As if another highlight were needed, there is a family tree at the end of the book. This particularly exquisite example of book art is predestined to be a family heirloom that can be passed down from generation to generation.
Pope Francis proclaimed 2016 as the Jubilee of Mercy, an extraordinary Holy Year in which the gift of divine forgiveness and grace was the focus and, as is tradition, a special plenary indulgence could be obtained.
For this festive occasion, the Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana participated in the creation of what is probably the most beautiful Bible of the 21st century.
The foreword written by Pope Francis himself and his personal blessing underline the special spiritual value of this unique edition of the Holy Scriptures.
Size: approx. 36 x 27 cm.
Both the Old and New Testaments with a total of 1024 pages are included.
The Holy Scripture is expanded and enhanced with around 920 illustrations, including a good 350 full-page miniatures, most of which contain a large proportion of gold foil. These miniatures, like the entire book, represent a cross-section of European art history.
A total of 154 manuscripts from eight centuries were collected from over 40 libraries worldwide and harmoniously combined.

The St. Albans Psalter from the Hildesheim Cathedral Library
