Dragon Soumak, East Caucasus, c. 276 x 146 cm
19th century. Unfortunately, only a few flatweaves in this particular technique have survived the last century in good condition. This type, highly sought after by collectors, shows very generously drawn figures spreading across the entire field, reminiscent of eagles with open wings. The known specimens differ in quality with regard to the drawing of the figures, their colouration, the creative dynamics of the winged creatures and the picture as a whole. With small, professional repairs, very good original condition.
Cf: Ignazio Vok, Vok Collection, Caucasus, Persia, Munich 1996, ill. 33.
